England's Boys win bronze in Japan (posted 16.08.05)

In the Toyota World Junior Golf Cup, the United States won with a score of 824, with Colombia as runners up. In bronze medal position was the English team of Tom Sherreard, Oliver Fisher and Daniel Willett. 18 year old Daniel Willett went on to captain the winning England team in the Boy's Home Internationals at Woodhall Spa in August.

Millfield School triumphant in Mill Hill Junior Open (posted 15.08.05)

Millfield made a clean sweep of the under 13 and under 18 medals at the Mill Hill School Junior Open in July. Matt Hatcher Hatcher who won the under 18 is hoping to go to the States to study golf. Millfield's Ben Goodson won the individual under-13 prize.

Oliver Fisher - youngest ever British Walker Cup Player (posted 15.08.05)

Oliver Fisher from West Essex golf club is just 16 but already accustomed to playing on the big stage. This week he was out in Chicago playing for the GB&I Walker Cup team against USA. Although the Americans won by just one point Oliver was able to hold American Putnam to a draw in his singles match on the last day.

Spain 2&1.

Top Qualifier loses in first round of Girls' British Open (posted10.08.05)

Lydia Hall with a two round total of 139 at West Hill was the top qualifier after two days medal play. However, she lost her first round match in the 64 person matchplay to the last qualifier, Barbara Perera of Spain who defeated her by 5&4. In the second round Perera herself lost to Isabelle Boineau of France. The Welsh Girls' champion, Sahra Hassan lost her second round match to Alessandra De Luigi. The final 16 players tee off on Wednesday 11th.

Girls' British Open Championship tees off at West Hill (posted 09.08.05)

Qualifying for the Open Championship started on Monday 8th August and Kiran Matharu from Cookridge Hall GC set the pace with a blistering 68, two under par. Most competitors found the course difficult despite the benign conditions and the standard scratch was 73. Kiran was one shot ahead of Sweden's Anna Nordqvist and two shots ahead of Lydia Hall and Sian James. Round two is taking place on Tuesday 9th with the top 64 going through to a matchplay tournament starting Wednesday.

England Girls retain Stroyan Cup at Worplesdon (posted 06.08.05)

After three days of intense competition in the Girls Home International Matches held at Worplesdon Golf Club in Surrey, England retained the Cup by the narrowest of margins from an unlucky Wales. On the final day of foursomes and singles matches, Wales halved their match against Scotland while England beat Ireland 9-0. As a result England won the matches having two points against the 1.5 points of Wales and Scotland. Wales won the most individual matches, accumulating 16.5 points to England’s 15. The top Welsh pairing of Welsh Girl’s Champion Sahra Hassan and Breanne Loucks (pictured left) was unbeaten in all three matches.

The matches are contested by teams of eight girls under 18 with three foursomes in the mornings and 6 singles in the afternoons.

 

The teams were:
England: Hannah Barwood from Knowle, Henrietta Brockway from Yeovil, Jodi Ewart from Catterick, Joanne Hodge from Knowle, Felicity Johnson from Harbourne, Kiran Matharu from Cookridge Hall, Florentyna Parker from Royal Birkdale and Melissa Reid from Chevin.

Wales: Kimberley Boulden from Llandudno (Maesdu), Tara Davies from Holyhead, Lydia Hall from Royal Porthcawl, Becky Harries from Haverdfordwest, Sahra Hassan from Vale of Glamorgan, Donna Jones from Caernafon, Breanne Loucks from Wrexham and Laura-Jane Roberts from Holyhead.

Scotland: Carly Booth from Auchterarder, Megan Briggs from Kilmalcolm, Krystle Caithness from St Regulus, Kelsey MacDonald from Nairn Dunbar, Roseanne Niven from Crieff, Michele Thomson from MaDonald, Rebecca Watson and Sally Watson from Elie and Earlsferry.

Ireland: Victoria Bradshaw from Bangor, Fiona Carroll from Athenry, Sarah Faller from Galway, Emma Gilmore from Mount Bellew, Laura Holmes from Enniscrone, Anne McCormack from Roscommon, Stephanie Meadow from Royal Portrush and Danielle McVeigh from Royal County Down Ladies.
